The anti-Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project protestors have decided to stage a road roko on two arterial highways in December demanding the closure of the ready-to-be-commissioned nuclear reactors.
A decision to this effect was taken in the meeting held at Idinthakarai, on Tuesday, in which representatives of a few political parties and some organisations participated along with activists.
The meeting resolved that the anti-nuke protestors, demanding the scrapping of KKNPP, would stage road roko on the Kanayakumari – Chennai National Highway and also on the East Coast Road in December. Though the participants of today’s meeting opined that road roko could be organised on December 10, it was decided that the exact date of the agitation would be finalised after holding discussions with leaders of various political parties so that they could lead the agitation from the front.
Prior to that, fishermen in the coastal districts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala would strike work on November 21, World Fishermen Day, and stage demonstration in their respective districts pressing the same demand.
The meeting with anti-KKNPP Struggle Committee convener S.P. Udayakumar in chair also resolved to seek “active participation” of leaders of various political parties opposing nuclear power programmes during the next blockade around KKNPP.
