The Madurai Corporation has taken up beautification works in Ward 21 (Bethaniapuram) under the Azhagiya Madurai Maanagara Thittam (AMMA) here on Saturday.

Cooperation Minister Sellur K.Raju inaugurated the clean-up drive in the presence of Mayor V.V.Rajan Chellappa and senior officials.

Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor said public response to this scheme had been encouraging, and so far 60 wards had been covered. Bethaniapuram was a big ward which included 160 streets and there were 18,500 people living in that area.

“But, the records show that property tax collection in this area is very less. Those who are not paying taxes should come forward to pay their dues to the Corporation,” Mr.Rajan Chellappa said.
