All political parties, barring the AIADMK, had been working to protect their family interests and were engaged in dynasty politics, said party leader Panruti S. Ramachandran here on Sunday.
Campaigning for the AIADMK candidate for Madurai Lok Sabha Constituency, R. Gopalakrishnan, he said while the Congress, DMK and the DMDK were indulging in dynasty politics, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa was working for the welfare of the people.
Criticising the Congress and the DMK for giving up Katchutheevu, Mr. Ramachandran said thousands of Tamil fishermen were being killed by the Sri Lankan navy because of it. He charged the UPA government at the Centre of preventing the State government from releasing the convicts in Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.
Further he blamed Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram for mismanagement of the country’s economy. He said the Finance minister was helping the rich get richer and poor get poorer in the country. The employment growth during the UPA regime was a mere 0.5 per cent and not eight per cent as claimed by Mr. Chidambaram, he said.
Mr. Ramachandran said it was time the AIADMK played a bigger role in the national politics. The party must win a substantial number of seats in the upcoming elections and make its presence felt in the parliament in order to protect the interests of the Tamil people, he added.
Cooperation Minister Sellur K. Raju, Mayor V. V. Rajan Chellappa and other AIADMK leaders were present.
