Supporters of former Union Minister M.K. Alagiri on Tuesday burnt the effigy of actor-turned-politician Napoleon here on Tuesday.

Mr Napoleon, who had quit the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party, had in an interview attributed his move to Mr. Alagiri’s advice. But Mr Alagiri had promptly clarified that he had no role in Mr Napoleon making the decision.

Supporters of Mr Alagiri burnt the effigy of Mr Napoleon near the District Court complex and shouted slogans against him for dragging Mr Alagiri’s name into the issue. “When Mr Alagiri had not played any role, using his name is mischievous and it triggered unnecessary controversy in the DMK,” they said.

“Mr Napoleon had risen in the DMK with Mr Alagiri’s blessings. He became not only an MP, but also a Union Minister. At the time of his exit (from the party), he should not attribute it to Mr Alagiri’s advice. By doing so, Mr. Napoleon had proved that he is a good actor,” said ‘Palanganatham’ Ravichandran, who led the agitation.
