The members of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam staged a demonstration here on Tuesday condemning the Centre for the reported move to disinvest five per cent of its stakes in Neyveli Lignite Corporation.

Hundreds of party cadre raised slogans against the Central Government. They cautioned the UPA government against taking any steps that would be against the interests of the workers. The protestors said the profit-making ‘Navarathna’ public sector units should not be privatised.

Addressing the protestors, Mayor V.V.Rajan Chellappa said the Centre was increasing the prices of petrol and diesel frequently. The country’s economy was in deep crisis because of the falling rupee value.

Stating that the party supremo and Chief Minister J.Jayalalithaa alone had the capability to set the nation’s economy in the right path, he wanted the party cadre to work for the victory of the party in all the 40 Parliamentary constituencies in the next Lok Sabha election.

Party Minorities’ Welfare Wing functionary A.Justine Selvaraj, party MLAs, M.Muthuramalingam and A.K.Bose, spoke.
