Five huge balloons were floated in the air over the city in connection with the proposed public meeting on Friday, organised by farmers of five districts, to thank Chief Minister Jayalalithaa for the State’s legal victory on Periyar dam issue.
Ministers K. Raju (Cooperation), R.B. Udhayakumar (Revenue) and S.S. Krishnamoorthy (Agriculture) were among those present during the event held at the meeting venue along the Ring Road on Tuesday.
The partymen let two balloons at the venue, one each near Mattuthavani integrated bus stand, Periyar bus stand and Goripalayam.
Mayor V.V. Rajan Chellappa, MLAs M. Muthuramalingam, Tamilarasan and V. Karuppaiah were also present.
Planning a grand eventEven as rain clouds hovering over Madurai for the past few days have been threatening the smooth conduct of the meeting, the Ministers and top party leaders are working overtime to ensure that the first visit of Ms. Jayalalithaa to the city after the landslide victory in Parliamentary elections becomes a grand event.
Party sources said a huge pandal that could accommodate over 50,000 persons would be erected in view of the cloudy skies.
