Students boycott schools against bio-medical incinerator

Hundreds of students from various villages in and around A. Mukkulam near Kariyapatti boycotted four schools in the neighbouring villages protesting against the “pollution” caused by a bio-medical incinerator at A. Mukkulam, on Monday.

The students, both boys and girls, stayed away from the schools — two at A. Mukkulam and one each in Thottiyankulam and Veppankulam.

The protest was to press for permanent closure of the incinerator run by Ramky Energy and Environment Limited. The students complained that bad odour from the newly-started dyeing unit effluent and e-waste dumping yard in the incinerator premises spreads up to their school in A. Mukkulam and gave difficult times for them.

Last week students had boycotted class in two schools in A. Mukkulam for a day.
