A 10-member team from the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board on Thursday, began inspection of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project, where loading of enriched uranium was almost complete.
The AERB team, comprising experts in various sub-fields of Atomic Energy technology, would inspect the plant for few more days, official sources said.
Atomic Energy Commission member Anil Kakodkar had recently stated that despite ‘difficulties’ faced at Kudankulam plant, the first unit would be commissioned “some months from now” and the second by end of 2013.
The Centre also had told the Supreme Court on October 16, that the plant was completely safe and designed to withstand all kinds of natural disasters and apprehensions over its safety are “baseless.” The People’s Movement Against Nuclear Energy has been leading protests against the plant for over a year citing safety concerns.
Commissioning of the first unit of the Indo-Russian project was originally scheduled for December last year, but has been delayed due to the protest.

Really, I will be so much happy to seeing that, the nuclear plant in running condition.
“A very small percentage of the people in this world will actually experience and live today. So many people will be stuck on another day, another time that traumatized them and caused them to spiritually stutter so they miss out on this day.”
Good luck Uranium..My dream is to make me member of this nuclear programme.
Thanks
Nikhil.
Nobody can justify a nuclear power programme as it is unacceptable regarding health and safety risks. Also it is unacceptable regarding its utility as a programme whose aim is to meet the electricity needs of the society outside the nuclear industry. A nuclear power programme consumes at the busbars five or more times the electricity it delivers at the busbars throughout its entire lifetime. This is because of the energy consumed by the programme for the materials like steel and cement and other processes like uranium mining and processing, steel canisters for waste storage, cooling of the wastes, decommissioning and operation and maintenance. Thus because of the ignorance of the planners and the executive, nukes will be forever built but the shortage of electricity will never be overcome. Thus these authorities do not know and do not know that they do not know. Hence are fools and must be shunned and people must prevail over them in one voice to say no to nuclear= extinction of life.
