: Over 1,000 members of various Bar Associations in Kanniyakumari district observed a fast on Wednesday.

The advocates were boycotting the court over the issue. They raised slogans demanding withdrawal of the amendments. S. Padmanabhan, president, Nagercoil Bar Association, presided.

R. Magesh, former president, Nagercoil Bar Association, and office-bearers of Bar Associations from Kuzhithurai, Boothapandi, Eraniel and Thuckalay and members of the association participated.

Mr. Magesh said that advocates ended their fast at 2 p.m. on Wednesday as there were positive signals to end the stalemate during the talks held in New Delhi. However, they would boycott the court proceedings till Sunday.
