Activists of the People’s Federation Against Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project blocked traffic for a while in Madurai on Monday, demanding the withdrawal of prohibitory orders under Section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code in Kudankulam and surrounding villages.
The activists claimed that the democratic rights of people living in and around Idinthakarai were denied for the last nine months on the pretext of the order under Section 144 under force and cases were foisted against them. They called for the withdrawal of all cases filed against those who opposed the Kudankulam plant and lifting of “artificial power cut” in the State. They were removed by the police to facilitate resumption of traffic.
