Accolades for Madurai Railway Division for accident-free record

Southern Railway General Manager Rakesh Misra has lauded the officials of Madurai Railway division for ensuring accident-free operations in the division during the current year.

Reviewing the performance of the division with officials, led by the Divisional Railway Manager, A.K. Rastogi, here on Monday, he said that the division was committed to providing safe and comfortable journey to rail passengers, a railway statement said.

A total of 185 out of the 228 unmanned level crossing gates in the division have been identified for conversion to subways and work was being taken up in a phased manner, the statement said.

Madurai Division handles 25 Mail/Express trains and 56 passenger trains daily apart from 34 non daily/weekly trains. The division carried a total of 292 lakh passengers in the current financial year upto November 2014.

Cargo loading for the division stood at 1.5421 million tonnes upto November this year against the target of 1.292 million tonnes. The earnings of the division stood at Rs.476 crores upto November 2014.
