In a swift action, the island police on Tuesday nabbed three criminals, including two accused in the Pottu Suresh murder case, after a hot chase and rescued a DMK town secretary within hours of his abduction.

The incident took place at 6 a.m. when V. Villayutham (50) was on his morning walk near the old Railway gate seashore here. On being alerted through police mike after a Omni van carrying the kidnappers failed to stop at a check post here, Uchipulli Inspector of Police M. Murugan tried to stop the van near the CMFRI campus and when it sped fast, he chased the van, even while asking the highway patrol party to block the road at Vedalai, few kilometres away towards Ramanathapuram.

As all vehicles were stopped at Vedalai, the kidnappers had no escape route.
