M. Kamacis, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate for Madurai Lok Sabha constituency, has begun his campaign on Saturday to popularise the party’s broomstick symbol among the electorate and especially to attract new voters.
The 43-year-old full-time practising chartered accountant who did his B.Com at Government Arts College (1988-91 batch) in Melur is targeting the groups which are looking for a “change” in politics and governance.
“Our party volunteers in Madurai constituency will reach out to the voters through SMS, Facebook and FM radio in a big way. We will conduct meetings near colleges to tap the youth,” Mr.Kamacis who belongs to Piramalai Kallar caste, said speaking to “The Hindu” on Saturday.
He said that his election campaign will be above religion and caste groups with special focus on issues pertaining to Madurai constituency. “Our party is firm that it is high time to do some cleansing in politics. Like how we clean our home, the time has come to clean the system too,” he told the youth.
For his campaign across constituency, the party will provide some funding support and the rest will be raised through donations collected by AAP workers.
A resident of Vasantha Nagar in the city, Mr.Kamacis has been participating in various programmes on public issues such as increasing crimes by educated youth and supporting deprived children for their education.
The AAP candidate is likely to file nomination papers on April 3 and a few national-level leaders of the party are expected to campaign here for him.
