An array of fabrics from across the country has been kept for sale as a part of the ‘Cottonfab- 2014’ expo organised by Awadh Hathkargha Hastshilp Evam Gramodyog Samiti at Gandhi Memorial Museum Grounds here.
The Lucknow-based association has brought together weavers and textile merchants showcasing different materials and garments to promote their work.
“This expo has been hosted with a view to giving these weavers and artisans, a chance to showcase their work directly to the customers and create a steady market for them,” said Javed Alam, secretary of the association.
Among the fabrics on display are Ghiccha and Tussar silk saris and salwar sets from Bihar, embroidered kurtas, salwar sets and dress materials from Kashmir, Chikan work sets from Delhi and Kutch embroidery and Bandhini sets from Gujarat.
The weavers said ‘Kalamkari’ and ‘Ikkat’ fabric designs were popular among the customers since they were lightweight and comfortable for the summer.
The expo organisers said that the silver jewellery and semi-precious jewellery embedded with gemstones and beads, kept for sale, attracted a lot of young shoppers.
Home furnishings which include curtains, bedspreads, cushion and pillow covers are also on display. Stalls showcasing a range of jute handbags from West Bengal as well as bangles from Jaipur too are part of the expo which hosts over 30 stalls.
The expo will be held till June 2 and will be open from 10.30 a.m. to 9 p.m., the organisers added.
