There were songs, dance and a trail of memories at Thiagarajar College of Engineering here on Sunday as students from the 1992 batch gathered to celebrate silver jubilee.

Alumni from various parts of the world gathered for the event meticulously planned since August last year.

“Since we all come from different parts of the world such as North America, Europe and India, it was difficult to keep the communication up with the time zone difference. However, about 70 % of the batch is here and many are here with their families. It is a pleasant sight,” said Veda Narayanan, one of the chief co-ordinators.

The event kept the participants engaged throughout the day.

Retired professors were honoured and batchmates exchanged tales of a forgotten past.

Students of TCE met with the alumni and asked pertinent questions. The batch also participated in a non-competitive cricket match.

Balaji Srinivasan, a professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology- Madras, said that the batch also raised funds to support low-income group students. He said the college was progressive and inclusive as it shaped first-generation learners.

Mr. Narayanan said it would be impossible to replace experience with textbooks.
