Residents of the city were in for a surprise on Sunday as Madurai received rainfall for the second consecutive day.
Though the ‘Agni Nakshatram’ or the peak summer season began on Sunday, the afternoon showers brought down the temperature.
Even though the day saw sunny skies at a temperature of 37 degree Celsius, dark clouds that gathered gave way to a steady drizzle from 1 p.m. Many parts of the city experienced steady showers till 3 p.m. Earlier this week, Madurai recorded rainfall of 60 mm on Wednesday and the rainfall recorded on Saturday in the city stood at 3.6 mm.
According to Indian Meteorological Department forecast, Madurai district will receive a minimum of 20 mm of rainfall in the next three days.
Till May 28The ‘Agni Nakshatram’ will continue till May 28 and the temperatures are expected to touch 43 degree Celsius this month. For the past one week, the maximum temperature recorded in the city has been at an average of 37 degree Celsius.
