A battle of minds reigned at ‘in-QUIZ-tors 2014’, an inter-school quiz competition organised by the Madurai Quiz Society Trust here on Saturday at the Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry auditorium.

As many as 125 teams from 40 schools in Madurai, Coimbatore and a few other southern districts participated in a written prelims round from which six top teams were selected to compete in the finals.

“The questions were chosen from a mix of streams which covered current affairs, history, literature, music, movies and sports which put the students to test across five rounds of quizzing,” said the members of the Madurai Quiz Society Trust.

Bragadeeswaran and Hari Krishna of GKD Matriculation School, Coimbatore, emerged as the winners and Siva Murugan and S. Viswesh Krishnan of Mahatma CBSE School were declared the first runners-up. Siddharth Rao and Shree Harihara Sudhan of Lakshmi School bagged the second runners-up place. The certificates, cash prizes and shields were given away to the students by Raja Govindasamy, Director of the Mannar Thirumalai Naicker College, and Shuba Prabhakar, Joint Managing Director of Micro Fine Clothing.

Speaking about the participation and response, D. Sundaranathan, one of the founding members of the Quiz Society Trust said that the students had been extremely well prepared and enthusiastic. “For people who wish to quiz, it is a must to read whatever they can lay their hands on from newspapers, magazines, journals and encyclopaedias. The internet too has a lot of good websites, quizzing forums and blogs but quizzers should ascertain the authenticity of the material available,” he said.

The website of the Madurai Quiz Society trust was also launched at the event. “We plan to put up questions on the website regularly so that it will help quizzers and persons interested,” the members said.
