Two workers were killed and a woman employee sustained bleeding injuries in an accidental explosion in one of the working sheds in a fireworks unit under Ezhayirampannai police station limits near here on Saturday.

The police said that friction while filling chemicals for making ‘chorsa’ triggered a fire accident and resulted in an explosion.

The room number 30 was razed to the earth and two workers – M. Sekar (45) and V. Ganesan (45) – were killed on the spot. A woman employee A. Mariammal was injured when a flying brick hit her. She was admitted to a private hospital at Ezhayirampannai.

The police have booked a case against the fireworks unit owner, Sujatha, and foreman Samudhrakani for the accident. The two bodies were handed over to the family members after post mortem.
