The 17th edition of The Hindu Young World Quiz, presented by Camlin Mechanical Pens, saw local teams bouncing back to corner glory after a gap of a few years.

The event, conducted at Thiagarajar College here on Friday, had a rapturous end as eight teams from Madurai took stage among the 12 chosen for the finals in the two — junior and senior — sections. The venue was bursting at its seams when the preliminary round for the senior category began. In all, 366 teams (138 juniors and 228 seniors) of two students each, representing schools across south Tamil Nadu, vied for the top honours.

The quiz comprised two rounds — preliminary and final — for both the sections. V. V. Ramanan, the quiz master, occasionally threw questions at the audience and those coming up with the right answer walked away with prizes. Six teams each were chosen from the preliminary rounds for the finals, which were conducted in the forenoon for juniors and in the afternoon for seniors.

S. Shasi Anand, Director, Kalasalingam University, Krishnankoil, who gave away the prizes to winners, advised the children not to take success to their head or failure to the heart. Trophies, prizes and certificates were given away to the winners. All participates were presented with certificates.
