Protests by college students, youths and rural masses continued on Wednesday in various places in the city and rural district limits.
Over 500 students of various arts and science colleges assembled at Tamil Annai Statue near Tamukkam ground and took out a procession to the Collectorate. They stayed put outside the Collectorate demanding to meet the Collector. They were joined by students of Government Law college.
In the afternoon, representatives of the colleges were allowed to meet the Collector and submit their petitions.
The students demanded that the ban on Jallikattu should be lifted and the bull-taming event should be conducted this year after two years of ban.
Meanwhile, a section of the protesters blocked the road at Goripalayam junction on their return. The city police picked up 164 students, who were later let off.
Similar protest was held by Students’ Federation of India who took out a procession from Race Course Road to Pudur Bus stand.
Similarly, students, youths and people of Vellalaur Naadu staged a demonstration at Melur with the same demand.
