P. Kannan of American College School has brought laurels to the institution by securing the first ever State rank it has produced in 99 years.
The Tamil medium student has secured the State first rank in Political Science with 198 marks. “I am very happy. I did not expect that I will secure a State rank in a subject,” Kannan said.
Son of A. Pandian, an electrician, and P. Palaniammal, a daily wage labourer, Kannan had scored 253 marks in the SSLC.
“He comes from an economically poor background. He has secured State rank only because of his hard work and sincerity. We are very proud of him,” said Juliet Arul Raj, his Political Science teacher.
“He was good in political science right from the beginning and scored not less than 190 in all the tests we conducted. We were confident that he would get good marks in the subject,” she added.
Wants to study lawKannan, who wants to study law, said, “No one from my family has ever been to college. I will be the first one to take up higher education. So they are very happy.”
S. Sridharan, Headmaster of the school, said that a total of 266 students from the school appeared for Plus Two examinations, of whom 188 had passed in all the subjects.
“We take students from diverse backgrounds and most of them are below average students. It is difficult to make them score high, but Kannan’s hard work has been rewarded,” he said.
