Makkal Nala Paniyalargal resorted to a ‘begging' stir near Periyar bus stand here on Thursday.

They staged the protest in a bid to draw the attention of the State government to reinstate 13,000 workers in the State who were removed from service. According to them, the apex court had observed that the dismissal was improper and directed the government to reinstate the workers. The 94 members, including 54 women, were arrested when they started begging with handtowels from the public and roadside vendors. Later, in the evening, the agitators were released, police said.
