A total of 8,263 candidates in Madurai district, which is 92.24 % of the 8,958 registered, sat for the written examination conducted on Sunday by the Teachers Recruitment Board for filling the posts of Post Graduate Assistants in schools.
The examination took place in 25 centres in the district.
Elaborate arrangements had been made by the district administration for the smooth conduct of the examination. Madurai Collector K. Veera Raghava Rao inspected the centre at O.C.P.M. Girls Higher Secondary School.
Similarly, 645 candidates took part in the written examination organised by Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission for the post of Assistant Agricultural Officers in Sri Meenakshi Government Arts College for Women, the only designated centre for the examination in the district.
Officials said that 52 of the registered candidates in the district did not turn up for the examination.
