91% covered under pulse polio immunization drive

1,35,474 children administered with polio drops: Collector

About 91 percent coverage has been achieved in the first round of intensified pulse polio immunization campaign, which was held in the district on Sunday.

Among the 1,48,858 enumerated children, 1,35,474 children had been administered with polio drops.

The Health Department staff and employees from various agencies were still on the job to record hundred percent immunization drive, Collector M. Ravikumar said here on Monday.

Addressing the media, the Collector said 59 TASMAC shops, including 30 with attached bars, have been closed in the wake of the Supreme Court’s directive.

Currently, only 56 TASMAC shops were functional and of these 37 shops were attached with bars.

Besides, FL -3 licenses of 13 liquor bars attached with hotels and an FL-2 license of a club near the highways were also cancelled.

Smart family cards

Referring to the issuance of smart family cards, Mr. Ravikumar said the district has a total of 4,50,534 family cards and out of which ‘One Time Password’ –(OTP) had been delivered to 42,943 card holders and 5,907 smart cards had been received by the card holders.

The OTP is being delivered to card holders through registered mobile phones and after receiving the OTP, the card holders could approach their nearest fair price shops within seven days.

By showing the OTP to the personnel, the card holders can receive their smart cards.

For making amends in smart cards, the card holders could make it through online www.tnpds.com accordingly.

Desilting water bodies

As for desilting and maintenance of 81 water bodies under the control of PWD for 2017-18, a proposal at an estimated cost of ₹12.2 crore has been sent to the government.

Moreover, 37 panchayat tanks would also be desilted at a cost of ₹6.25 crore, the Collector said.

Further, he said through corporate social responsibility activities, desilting works and construction of check dams would be done at Karungulam, Srivaikuntam and Tiruchendur.

He also added that environmental activists or any like-minded person willing to desilt the tanks could approach him and get permit through the single window system.
