5 killed as buses collide near Virudhunagar

Five persons were killed and 48 others were injured when two private buses collided head on at Parapatni near Virudhunagar on Thursday evening.

Police said accident occurred when a private bus from Ramanathapuram to Perunazhi tried to overtake an autorickshaw and collided with another bus coming here from Arupukottai.

Three persons were killed on the spot while two others died without responding to treatment at the Government Rajaji Hospital here.

The 48 injured had been hospitalised. They accused the drivers of both the buses of reckless driving, police said.
