Forty seven persons were injured in a jallikattu held at Palanganatham here on Sunday.

Eight of them sustained grievous injuries and were admitted to Government Rajaji Hospital. The event, conducted in Palanganatham after a gap of 16 years, was inaugurated by Minister for Cooperation ‘Sellur’ K. Raju and Collector K. Veera Raghava Rao. About 800 bulls from various parts of the State were brought but only 484 entered the arena. About 450 tamers took part in the sport. They were allowed to enter in batches of 75 for a duration of an hour. Motorcycles, cars, refrigerators, bicycles, cooking vessels and even goat kids were given away as prizes.
