37,309 students appear for Plus Two exam

129 candidates absent for language paper-I

Plus Two State board examinations have commenced on Thursday with 37,309 students writing language paper-I at 91 examination centres across Madurai district. On the first day, 129 students were absent for the exam.

While the district totally had 37,309 registered candidates from 276 schools this year, 37,180 students turned up thereby keeping the absentee figure at 129.

With regard to private candidates, totally 569 had registered for this year’s higher secondary public examinations of whom 88 were absent.

Officials in the School Education Department said that one private candidate indulged in malpractice at a centre in Melur and that boy was sent out by invigilators after taking away his answer-sheets.

J.Angelo Irudayasamy, Chief Educational Officer, Madurai district, said that 172 flying squads are monitoring the conduct of plus two examinations in the district and the first day went off smoothly without any problem.

The three-hour examination started at 10 a.m. and ended at 1.15 p.m.

Usha Rani, Joint Director (NSS), Department of School Education, who is the nodal officer for the district, made visits to examination centres to inspect the arrangements. On Friday, students will write language paper-II.
