36 share autos seized

As many as 36 share autorickshaws were seized in checks carried out in the city following the Madras High Court Bench’s directive on Wednesday to police and transport officials to crack down on auto drivers who charged more than the rates prescribed by the State government. Share autos carrying more passengers than the permissible limit were also seized. The checks were carried out in Kamarajar Salai, Teppakulam, at Anna Nagar-Vandiyur junction and near the District Court Complex by K. Kalyanakumar, RTO, Madurai North, M. Singaravelu, RTO, Madurai South, and J.K. Baskaran, RTO, Madurai Central.

The drivers have been asked to submit their original vehicle documents at the Regional Transport office concerned on Friday. They might face a temporary suspension of permit, sources said.
