25 kg ganja seized; 20 held

The Madurai rural district police arrested 20 drug pedlars and seized 25 kg of ganja during raids conducted at different parts of the district on Saturday.

Among them were six women. In a statement, the Superintendent of Police, Asra Garg, said that though the police brought the transport and sale of ganja down in the district to a significant extent, there were information about some elements continuing the sale of the narcotic substance.

Besides, the local police, special teams raided various places under the limits of Sindupatti, Vadipatti, Usilampatti, Sholavandan, Alanganallur, Melur, Kadupatti, Chekknoorani and M. Kallupatti police station limits. The drug pedlars had bought ganja from other States and seventeen cases were registered, Mr. Garg said.
