2,490 cases settled at Lok Adalat

A total of 2,490 cases were cleared and a settlements to the tune of ₹ 26.3 crore was awarded as part of the National Lok Adalat organised at the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court and the district courts here on Sunday mainly for cases related to motor vehicle accident claims.

At the High Court Bench, Justice S.S. Sundar, Justice M. Sundar, Justice J. Nisha Banu, and Justice T. Krishnavalli heard the cases. A total of 936 cases were taken up for hearing, of which 134 were cleared and a settlements of around ₹ 9.5 crore were awarded.

At the district court, of the 20,563 case listed for hearing, 2,356 were cleared and the litigants were awarded settlements to the tune of ₹16.8 Crore. Deepthi Arivunithi, I Additional District Judge, S. Ganesan, II Additional District Judge, N. Venkatavaradan, I Additional Special Judge, C. Sanjai Baba, IV Additional District and Sessions Judge, B. Rajavel, VI Additional District and Sessions Judge, and M. Meera Sumathi, District Judge for Special Court heard the cases at the district court.
