Two government school teachers were arrested and remanded to judicial custody on charges of sexually abusing girl students on Friday.

A. Terens (50) and S. Vijayakumar (37), both teachers of Government Higher Secondary School at Kulamangalam, were booked under provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.

The arrest was effected after a personal enquiry was conducted by the Superintendent of Police, V. Balakrishnan, on the school premises on Thursday.

Enquiries with students

The SP made enquiries with several students, based on a complaint lodged by the rural district secretary of the All India Democratic Women’s Association, S.K. Ponnuthai, about the sexual harassment of girl students by the teachers.

The Koodal Pudur police have registered the case.
