Sleuths seized the narcotic substance from the shop at West Vadambokki Street in Madurai on July 6
The Narcotics Intelligence Bureau (NIB) police arrested two persons here on Saturday on charges of planting a polythene packet containing about 500 grams of heroin in a musical CD shop in the city.
Acting on specific information, the NIB sleuths seized the narcotic substance from the shop at West Vadambokki Street on July 6. The CD shop was run by one Balan, who had employed two persons – Latha and Ramanathan.
After thorough investigation, the police found that the shop owner or his employees had no role in bringing in the narcotic substance. During interrogation, they expressed their suspicion that one merchant from Chennai could have committed the offence due to business rivalry.
A team rushed to Chennai and secured Khaja Moideen of Chintadripet, who also runs a CD shop.
According to the police, Khaja Moideen came under the scanner of Video Piracy Cell police a few months ago, and he suspected that Balan must have played a role in it.
To take revenge on Balan, Khaja Moideen wanted to project Balan as an anti-social element in public.
With the help of a Central Excise Department (Intelligence Wing) employee, who is identified as Lakshmanan and is absconding, Khaja Moideen arranged the heroin packed in a polythene bag to be dropped in Balan’s shop. Khaja Moideen’s accomplice Nallathambi of Vembar in Tuticorin district dropped the contraband in the shop. The police registered cases against Khaja Moideen and Lakshmanan.
The DIG of Police (NIB) John Nicholson commended the team which cracked the case.
