2 girls kidnapped by men posing as cops, ‘rescued’

Two children, aged nine and five and daughters of a wholesale grocer, were reportedly kidnapped by two persons who claimed to be police personnel on Kamarajar Salai under Teppakulam police station limits here on Thursday.

Police said the children were on their way to school near Teppakulam when a car intercepted the SUV in which they were being taken by their driver, Pandian, around 8.30 a.m.

The men, wearing white shirts and khaki pants, claimed that they were policemen and brought the two children and driver out of the vehicle.Claiming that they must interrogate the children, they took them away in their car.

Later, they dropped the driver at Viraganoor junction.

After the driver narrated the incident, the family lodged a complaint with Teppakulam police.

Special teams were formed in search of the missing children.

Reunited with parents

Later in the night, a police officer said the children were “rescued” around 10.30 p.m. and handed over to the parents.

However, the officer refused to divulge further details, stating that the investigation was on.
