2 arrested Iranians remanded in judicial custody

The two Iranian nationals, arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Sivaganga district for manufacturing methamphetamine, were produced at a judicial court in Tirupathur in Sivaganga district on Sunday.

According to local police, cases were registered against the duo under sections 8 (C ), 22 ( C), 25 (A), 28 and 29 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The Iranians were later taken to Pudukottai district to appear at the Special Court for Essential Commodities Act, after judicial magistrate K. Muthukumar reportedly said that he did not have the powers to remand them to custody.

Late in the evening on Sunday, the two Iranians were produced before the Judicial Magistrate in Pudukottai, Pushparani, who remanded them to judicial custody for 15 days.

The foreigners — Mosavi Masoud (49) and Mohammed Zafrani (30) — were interrogated by NCB officials at the house which was used to manufacture methamphetamine. The owner of the house P. Kaliammal was also produced.
