1800 CDs seized; five held

In a surprise check, the police seized 1,800 CDs — of 300 obscene films and 1,500 new Tamil movies. Five persons were arrested and the equipment used for copying the CDs seized.

As instructed by Inspector General and Commissioner of Police P. Kannappan, a special team gathered information on piracy and zeroed in on the suspects at Solai Alagupuram Third Street, M.K. Puram and Jeeva Nagar First Street. M. Samsukani (53) and Manivel (50) of Jaihindpuram, among others, were arrested. Based on their confession, the police seized 2 DVD players, a television set, two copying machines and several blank CDs from them. Further investigation is on.
