12-year-old accelerates vehicle, crashes into wall and dies

In a freak and tragic incident, a 12-year-old boy died after he started a two-wheeler parked in front of his house and crashed into a wall after accelerating the vehicle with full thrust at Kilakarai on Friday.

Police said Ajmal Khan, the boy’s uncle, on his return from the mosque, parked the vehicle (Scooty) in front of the house and left the key in the ignition and went for lunch, when the boy, Ahmed Askan (12) tried his hand on the vehicle.

After starting the engine, he accelerated with full thrust only to crash into the wall. He fell down unconscious on being hit by a wooden slab in the wall and died after being taken to the Government headquarters hospital here, police said.

After examination at the emergency ward, doctors advised the family members to take the boy to Madurai for further treatment and the family members were making arrangements for shifting when the boy succumbed to injuries, police said. The boy studying in a local school, has two sisters, police added.
