For the benefit of those who are unable to fill-up details in forms for obtaining birth or death certificates and to avoid touts, the Corporation has opened a ‘help desk’ at the Anna Maaligai here on Monday.

On an average, 30 to 40 persons came to the counters seeking forms and help for filling them up. While informed persons had no difficulty in filling up these forms, others had problems in submitting the forms with all the required information.

Utilising this, a few brokers claimed themselves to be “approved” agents and fleeced the gullible public.

When the issue was taken up by the officials at a recent meeting, Commissioner Sandeep Nanduri examined the modalities and established the help desk. According to a press release, two staffs from the Corporation would be available at the help desk from 9.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. on all working days to guide the public in filling the forms.

Only during school admission season, the public would throng the Corporation for birth certificates. Otherwise, on an average, 50 to 75 applications for birth/death certificates would be received, officials at the counter said and added that surveillance cameras have been fitted and senior officials would be monitoring the movements.
