MADURAI: Digitalization could help to a great extent in reducing red-tapism, inefficiency and corruption, said Sandeep Nanduri, Madurai Corporation Commissioner, while inaugurating the National Productivity Week celebrations organised by Madurai Productivity Council here on Sunday.

Speaking on ‘Productivity through Digitalization,’ Mr. Nanduri cited the example of the software being designed and used by Madurai Corporation to consolidate grievances received through various platforms, including social media, and address them effectively.

Pointing out that through the software, senior officials can see even the localities that are reporting more grievances, he said that the efficiency in addressing the complaints had improved considerably after introduction of the system. He highlighted that Madurai Corporation received an award from Government of India under the Digital India initiative.

On the theme of ‘From waste to profit through reduce, recycle and reuse’ chosen by MPC for the week-long celebrations, he said that the ideas of reduce, recycle and reuse should be ingrained and adopted in the day-to-day lives of everyone.

“It can be in reducing the use of paper in our offices or proper segregation and recycling of waste generated at household level,” he said.

Mr. Nanduri also highlighted that Madurai Corporation was on the anvil of executing few ambitious projects in solid waste management, which included a project for generation of Refuse-derived fuel (RDF) from waste materials.

He also heaped prizes on MPC for being one of the actively-functioning productivity councils in the country. G. Subramanian, President of MPC, C. Muthuraja, Honorary Secretary of MPC, G. Jayaseelan, Treasurer of MPC, S. Rajagopal, Chairman, Programme Committee of MPC and V.S. Suresh Babu, Coordinator of the national productivity celebrations also spoke at the function.
