Two youths were arrested on charge of sexually abusing a 17-year-old girl staying at a college hostel in the city.
The police team under Francis Shelby, Circle Inspector, Town South, arrested Nishad, 23, of Ponjassery, Perumbavoor, and Ratheesh, 20, of Nayarupara, Idukki, following a detailed inquiry.
Investigation revealed that Nishad lured the girl out of her hostel three months ago. He took her to a lodge at Meenangadi and raped her. The girl returned to the hostel after the accused promised to marry her.
On March 8, Nishad asked her to accompany him to his friend’s house. However, he drove her to Munnar.
While staying at a hotel in Munnar, Nishad collected all her ornaments.
Meanwhile, the warden of the hostel lodged a complaint with the police after he realised that the girl was missing. Nishad promised the girl to keep her in a hideout till she reached marriageable age.
He then took her to Ratheesh, who is employed at Thiruvananthapuram. Ratheesh took her to his home at Idukki after promising to marry her and abused her.
The Town Central Police with assistance from Cyber Cell tracked the girl to Ratheesh’s house.
On the basis of a statement given by the girl, both Nishad and Ratheesh were arrested and later remanded by the court.
