Close on the heels of officials sealing an “unhygienic” lassi-making unit in the city, Youth Congress activists on Thursday attacked a lassi outlet at Kaloor.

The activists damaged the shop by throwing stones at it. They alleged that the authorities had failed to take stringent action against errant shop owners. On an alert, the police rushed to the spot and took the protesters into custody. A case was registered.

Fact-finding initiative

Meanwhile, the health standing committee of the Kochi Corporation directed the Corporation Secretary to prepare a report on all juice vending shops in the city.

The Health Department will also join in the fact-finding initiative and examine whether the outlets have the required licences.

The health wing of the corporation had earlier inspected and sealed a lassi outlet, which was allegedly selling juice prepared in unhygienic conditions.
