Youngster dies after being thrashed with stump

A 19-year-old youngster, who suffered grievous head injuries after being thrashed with a cricket stump, succumbed to his injuries at the Alappuzha Medical College Hospital here on Wednesday.

According to the police, Sharath Chandran of Pallipad near Haripad was attacked with a cricket stump by two others on Monday, when he was playing cricket. The accused, Shyam, 24, and his brother Sharon, 21, had previous enmity with Sharath and had entered into an argument with him before attacking him.

Sharath was later admitted to the Alappuzha MCH, where he was in a coma since. Doctors declared him dead around 1 a.m. on Wednesday, according to the police, who have handed over the body to his family after a post-mortem.

Both Shyam and Sharon are at large after the incident and the police have launched a search for the duo.
