Dream big, think different

While many at their age dreamt of plum jobs and a secure life, Alfred Johnson and Vivek Mohan took the road less taken.

The men, who were at the Young Entrepreneurs Summit (YES) at Angamaly on Friday, had launched their company at the Kochi Start-up Village four months ago. Today, they are in talks with a multi-national company to commercialise their Intelligent Transmission Technology (IGT) for motorcycles.

“IGT can convert any geared motorcycles on road to automatic geared and the system has been under test for the last one and half years. We have done over 20,000 kilometres of road testing using this technology,” said Vivek Mohan, founder and Chief Executive Officer of the company, who passed out of the Cochin University of Science and Technology last year.

Alfred Johnson, co-founder and Managing Director of the company, claimed that motorists could feel the comfort of having an automatic ride with no drop or improvement in the mileage using the technology.

The prototype is ready and the technology could be utilised in a motorbike at a cost between Rs. 3,000 and Rs. 5,000, he said. More than 130 young innovators were part of the exhibition held as part of the YES summit organised by Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation.

Paul Alex and Midhun Mohan, who earned B. Tech from the National Institute of Technology in Kozhikode, were seen explaining their innovative ideas to B. Tech students. “Our aim is to develop a race specific electric bike. The first prototype would be ready in five months.

We are bike enthusiasts and want to provide others a different riding experience by coming up with a light-weight electric bike,” said the founders of Hound, a start-up incubated at the Kochi Startup Village.
