Work on Metro’s coach repair yard in a week

Work on Kochi Metro’s coach maintenance yard at Muttom will begin in a week’s time, District Collector P.I. Sheikh Pareeth has said.

Land acquisition for the project in the Aluva-Pettah alignment will also start in a week.

Steps would be taken to streamline traffic flow along the NH when the metro’s pillar works are on, he said.

On Monday, Mahesh Kumar joined Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) as Director (Projects). A 1982 batch IRSE officer, Mr. Kumar has 28 years of experience in project management in different establishments such as Southern and South Western railways, RITES etc.

He was the Group General Manager in RITES (Rail India Technical and Economic Services) during the construction of Bangalore Metro. He specialises in mass urban transport projects.

“He has played a significant role in shaping Bangalore Metro and he is coming to us with lot of learning from there. We are happy to welcome him on board,” said Elias George, MD of KMRL.
