A day after the district administration came out with a proposal to turn the 1,000-odd pillars of the Kochi Metro into artists’ canvasses, the Kochi Metro Rail Limited shot it down. The district administration had announced the proposal in association with the Kerala Lalithakala Akademi to paint the pillars highlighting the history and cultural heritage of the State.

“It is clarified that this proposal does not have the approval of KMRL, as it is not feasible to implement it as presently proposed on account of the possible danger of traffic distractions to drivers along the roads below the Metro viaduct,” said a disclaimer by KMRL on Wednesday. However, “KMRL would actively pursue a proposal to have works of art and murals on display on the station buildings and other selected areas.”
