Women’s panel to seek details of college hostel

The State Women’s Commission will take suo motu case against the alleged ragging of a girl at a hostel in Karnataka.

Commission member Lissie Jose said the Chairperson, who was in Hyderabad, would take up the case as soon as she returned.

Action against errant hostels

Ms. Jose added that the commission would seek details about licences granted to girls’ hostels. She said such a move was being considered in the light of complaints received. “The commission will take action against institutions without proper infrastructure and hygiene,” she added.

At its sitting held here, the commission accepted a total of 115 complaints, of which 37 were sorted out, while in 11 cases, police reports were sought. Six complaints were presented before the RDO, while five cases pertained to counselling.
