With pillar works for Kochi Metro getting over at MG Road north end, barricading has been reduced from eight metres to two metres.
This has increased the width of the carriageway from two lane to four lane. This is to ensure smoother flow of vehicles.
“However, for safety reasons, half/full barricades are provided closer to the pillars located on the road median. Barricades were provided for a width of eight meters for completing metro’s substructure works - piles, pile cap, pillars and crash barriers. Works connected with construction of divider kerbs in the median connecting the crash barriers of pillars will be taken up in due course,” says a press release issued by DMRC. In the coming months, during the launching of the superstructure namely pier cap and girders, traffic restrictions may be imposed for safety reasons. “We request vehicle users to drive cautiously in the above stretch,” it said.
