A water sports complex will come up on Willingdon Island. A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of Cochin Port Trust officials called by K.V. Thomas, MP, to discuss the continued development of the Waterfront-CPT-Walkway on Willingdon Island near Thoppumpady bridge.

An open air theatre, police aid post, pay-and-park facility, mini eateries, and toilet blocks will be constructed along the walkway, a communication from Mr. Thomas said. There will be mini high-mast lights and surveillance cameras as well. The project so far has received ₹4.5 crore from the Centre, ₹1 crore from Kochi Refinery and ₹50 lakh from the State government.

Mr. Thomas also said top-level discussions would be held with the Kerala Cricket Association for a cricket stadium in Kochi. One last chance should be given for a discussion to see if such a ground could come up at Edakochi where a stadium was unsuccessfully proposed to be built earlier, he added.
