The results of the coming elections will prove people's approval of the Left Democratic Front rule, which stood for the welfare of the people and delivered things pro-poor, Communist Party of India national secretary D. Raja has said.
Addressing an LDF election campaign meeting in Munnar on Sunday, Mr Raja said it would a verdict for continuous development in the State and a deviation from the alternative ruling trend that had impacted the development front. The pro-poor measures adopted by the V.S. Achuthanandan government would be backed by the people and there would be continuity in the development activities of the State, he said.
The real face of the Congress had been unravelled through the 2G spectrum, Adarsh flat, Commonwealth and S-band scam cases and it would be reflected in the mandate of the people he said.
The State government became a model through the distribution of rice at Rs 2 per kg, wage hike for workers, welfare schemes for the poor, rise in pension and distribution land to the landless.
Many public sector sick units had been reopened and new public undertakings were started while the Congress went for the destruction of the public sector through its liberalisation agenda, The Left rule is needed for strengthening the public distribution system and alleviation of miseries of the poor, he said.
The meeting was attended by Communist Party of India (Marxist) district secretary M.M. Mani and the candidate of Devikulam constituency S. Rajendran.
