The Aluva municipality will be receiving the final draft of its urban master plan, drawn up with British aid, in February.
According to municipal authorities, Atkins International, the British agency entrusted to prepare the document, will be handing it over to the municipal authorities during the INTBAU conference to be held in London next month.
“The Aluva municipality has received an invite from the British High Commission to attend the event, during which we will be receiving the draft. Once we get the project on the table, we will be able to find partner agencies to implement it in a phased manner,” said Jebi Mather, municipal councillor who coordinates the programme.
The project aims to help Aluva prepare better for climate impact by developing sustainable approaches to growth that integrate the needs and solutions of local communities. This is the first time an integrated analysis of Aluva’s development is being prepared.
In November last year, the agencies held a joint workshop in Kochi to define a participatory framework for future action that would guide sustainable growth by eliminating risks, reducing energy intensity and building up support for future action.
Civic issues related to waste management, uncontrolled development, general pollution, transportation and connectivity, inadequate water drainage system and the need to improve public spaces were discussed.
