In a bizarre incident, a tourist from United Kingdom (UK) and driver of a car were seriously injured when a tree uprooted and fell onto the car in which they were travelling in at Neerkunnam junction near Amabalappuzha in Alappuzha on Sunday morning.

The seriously injured, Andrea Rossario (45) of UK and driver, Biju Joseph (42), son of Joseph of Puthenparambil in Changanassery were first admitted to the Alappuzha medical college hospital. The car was badly damaged in the incident. The UK tourist, who was first admitted to the trauma care unit of the Alapppuzha medical college, was later shifted to Amrita hospital in Ernakulam. Ms. Andrea reportedly reached Chennai from UK, and took a car from a travel agency from Kollam and was on her way to Kumarakom when the mishap occurred.

The traffic was disrupted for more than an hour on the national highway due to the accident. The traffic resumed only after fire force personnel cut down the tree into pieces and shifted it from the road.
